Last year, I wasn’t a doula at all. I was in my 8th year working as a high-risk labor nurse. Supporting families was in my heart, but stepping into doula work felt intimidating.

Everything shifted in February 2025 when I joined Birthworker Academy. Within a few months, I had automated the back end of my business, built and launched my own Canva website, became a certified birth and postpartum doula, got credentialed with two insurance companies, and completely booked myself out with two births a month all the way through January 2026.

That kind of progress wasn’t easy. Imposter syndrome was real in the beginning. What got me through was leaning on the Birthworker Community by checking in, bouncing ideas around, and slowly building my confidence.

Some moments this year have been surreal. I supported my very first doula client in the same hospital where I work as a nurse. I found an incredible backup doula who feels like a true partner. And a physician I work with even approached me about cohosting a luncheon to bring doulas and providers together.

Now, I’m proud to say I still work as a labor nurse and run a fully booked doula business. My next big dreams are to start a podcast, finish my MSN degree, and eventually go back to school for midwifery.
