“After maternity leave, I wasn’t sure how much I’d be able to rebuild — Birthworker helped me come back stronger.”
At this time last year, my business was starting to take off. I was booking about two births a month, supporting families postpartum, and really focused on in-person work. Then I went on maternity leave, and everything slowed down. Coming back, I wasn’t sure how much I’d be able to rebuild, especially with a baby at home.
Today, I’m back to booking regularly and getting steady consults. Not only that, but I’ve grown so much beyond birth support. I’ve niched down into VBACs and unmedicated births, which I’m so passionate about. While I always honor when plans change, I love supporting the mental and emotional preparation that goes into planning for an unmedicated birth.
I’ve also stepped into teaching and leadership in new ways: hosting workshops, networking with local businesses, and creating a private client portal that’s essentially become its own mini childbirth education course. On top of that, I revamped my packages, added more prenatals and resources, and increased my prices to reflect the value I’m offering.
The journey wasn’t easy. At the end of my pregnancy and in early postpartum, I felt stuck in imposter syndrome. I wanted to work but had zero motivation. The pressure I put on myself made it even harder. A lot of that tied into postpartum anxiety. What helped me was giving myself permission to rest, reconnecting with my community, and leaning into the Birthworker Podcast and stories that reignited my fire. Five months out, I feel more confident than ever in my skills and in myself.
Some of the biggest highlights this year: witnessing a miraculous unmedicated VBAC where the baby was born in the sac (an experience that felt so affirming), joining the Lactation Consultant Launchpad and beginning my pathway to becoming an IBCLC, and collaborating with local businesses to host workshops that are building brand awareness and community connections.
Looking ahead, I’m setting my sights on selling out a workshop and booking births through April. After a year of growth and transformation, I feel stronger, clearer, and more excited than ever for what’s ahead.
